This weekend is Mother’s Day, y’all! If you’re less than thrilled with the idea of having to shop for a gift, you have something in common with Mother’s Day founder, Anna Jarvis. The team here at 35 West’s Moore apartments is all about making your life easier, so we thought we’d offer up some gift ideas even Anna Jarvis might like. All of these gifts support an active lifestyle to help Mom live a healthy and happy life. But before we roll out our top 7, the team at 35 West’s Moore Apartments wants to share a little Mother’s Day History. According to Wikipedia , it all began in 1908 when Anna Jarvis, a resident of West Virginia, wanted to set aside a day to honor all mothers. As she put it, a Mom is “the person who has done more for you than anyone in the world.” The first Mothers day was a memorial for Anna’s Mom, Ann Jarvis, a peace activist who cared for wounded soldiers on both sides of the American Civil War and devoted her life to public health. The tradition grew and 1914, President Woodrow Wilson designated Mother’s Day as a national holiday. But by the early 1920s, companies like Hallmark had started selling Mother’s Day cards and gift giving became the norm. Jarvis felt this placed profit over sentiment, twisting the purpose of Mother’s Day. As a result, she organized boycotts. By that time, however, Mothers Day was being celebrated around the world and the holiday had taken its place in popular culture.

So let’s make the best of this tradition and encourage Mom’s best health with these 7 Sporty Gifts for Active Moms from the team at 35 West’s Moore apartments, courtesy of In Style Magazine.
